Sept 4th Grand Opening Ceremony

Grand Opening Ceremony of the Covered Bridge
Planned for September 4th

Excitement continues to mount as the public awaits the completion of Pepperell's third covered bridge.  On Saturday, September 4th, 2010 a Grand Opening Ceremony is planned with a big celebration honoring our new bridge.  The rain date is Sunday, September 5th. A ceremonious morning of events will be followed by an afternoon of fun and entertainment that will end with a block party around the new bridge. Historic events are planned with contests, games from the 18th century, a patriotic craft workshop for kids, a marketplace of vendors, pony rides, food and more events will be announced soon.

Businesses, groups and residents in town are also working together to create a scenic, historic area called the Prudence Wright Overlook to be developed alongside the new covered bridge, on land owned by the Department of Fisheries & Wildlife. The Overlook will include historical monuments and education, bridge artifacts, natural plants and landscaping and a commemorative brick walkway called the Pepperell Memory Walk

The Pepperell Memory Walk will contain engraved bricks that can be purchased by the public and personalized with a name or message and placed permanently into the walkway at the bridge. Proceeds from the fund raiser will benefit the covered bridge site and provide funds to help maintain the area in the future. Brick order forms and information is available at: the Town Clerk's office, www.pepperellinfo.net/coveredbridge, www.shoppepperell.com, the Lawrence Library or call 978 433-3232 for more information.  The Covered Bridge Committee will launch a new web site, www.pepperellcoveredbridge.org, on the internet later this month to provide information about the Grand Opening Ceremony, the Prudence Wright Overlook and the Memory Walk.

Volunteers are encouraged to join the town appointed Covered Bridge Committee to help plan and oversee events for this special occasion. This is a rare opportunity in our history and the public has some grand ideas on how they would like to celebrate together. We need volunteers to help us create a celebration event that the entire community will remember.
